www.nexusmagazine.com NEXUS • 1 Magnesium is nothing short of a miracle mineral in its healing effect on a wide range of diseases as well as in its ability to rejuvenate the aging body. We know that it is essential for many enzyme reactions, especially in regard to cellular energy production, for the health of the brain and nervous system and also for healthy teeth and bones. However, it may come as a surprise that in the form of magnesium chloride it is also an impressive infection fighter.

Natural variation of magnesium isotopes in mammal bones and teeth from two South African trophic chains

Isotopic fractionations accompanying element transfer through terrestrial ecosystems have the potential to shed light on ecological interactions between primary producers and consumers, but with the exception of carbon and nitrogen this potential has barely been exploited. Here, the magnesium stable isotope composition of bones and teeth of extant mammals from Kruger National Park (KNP) and Wes...

The Effect of Melatonin Supplementation on Lead, Calcium and Magnesium Distribution in the Tissues of Lead-Exposed Rats

The aim of this study was to determine whether oral supplementation of melatonin (m), a known antioxidant, free radical scavenger and metal chelator, influences lead (Pb), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (mg) distribution in the blood, bones and teeth of rats exposed chronically to lead. The studies were carried out on male wistar rats which, from their birth until reaching sexual maturity (for 3 mo...

Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium

A total of approximately 1-1.5kg of body weight is made up of calcium where 99% is found in the bones and teeth and remaining 1% is in the ECF and other compartments. Ca exists as carbonates or phosphates of calcium within the body, while in the plasma they exist in either the ionized form(which is the physiologically active form), bound to plasma proteins(mainly albumin) or complexes with orga...

Calcium and magnesium content in hard tissues of rats under condition of subchronic lead intoxication.

Lead manifests toxic effects in almost all organs and tissues, especially in: the nervous system, hematopoietic system, kidney and liver. This metal has a special affinity for deposition in hard tissue, i.e., bones and teeth. It is generally believed that the main mechanism of its toxicity relies on its interaction with bioelements, especially with Ca and Mg. This article analyses the influence...
